7/30/2004 Reno, NV Man Sentenced for Attempted Murder and Kidnapping from Wal-Mart

Richard William Martin was sentenced to a maximum of 10 years on a second-degree kidnapping charge and 15 years on an attempted murder charge. According to testimony, Martin confronted his estranged wife in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart, where she worked, and began arguing about a relationship she was having with another man. He threw her in the car, the whole time saying to her 'I'm going to kill you' and 'Do you wanna die? He headed east on the interstate at speeds that topped 80 mph before exiting. When he hit the off-ramp's guard rail, "he was going so fast that they went flying in the air, flipped and landed on the other side of eastbound 80," Greco said. "It was only by the grace of God that she wasn't hurt." Martin suffered a head injury and was in a coma for several months. He was arrested in October 2004 after he regained consciousness.
